Health and security comity training

  • The new representatives of the Health-Security-Work-Conditions-Comitee (CHSCT), as well as those who have been working there for 2 years must have a CHSCT formation (initial or retraining) about their functions and duties as CHSCT members.

    The duration of the formation is directly linked (by rule) to the number of employees.
    - less than 200 employees = 3 days
    - more than 200 employees = 5 days.
    Extra days may be required for firms following the SEVESO rules.
  • Beyond the regulation content, it really is about giving the the CHSCT representatives the power to understrand and act upon the issues of health and working conditions in the firms, in connection with the matters of profesional risk prevention, modification of organization and of the work positions in the firms.


    The method is incorporating a lot of enforcement and analysis of the ongoing modifications within the firm so it can give perspective to the analysis of the CHCST: go over the data from the last two years; analyse the jobs recently changed, look at the modifications yet to come, discuss with the leaders about the elements that are available or not,...

    As many keys for the action and motivation of the CHCST will allow it to have a new beginning in the firms and play an active role.
  • Of course, the formation includes the required regulation aspects but we also dedicate an important part linked to the comprehension and observation of the working issues.

    Indeed, the CHSCT representatives have to be able to come out of their usual role in the firms to be able to comprehend the difficulties of other employees and must create an appropriate atmosphere to encourage the consideration of prevention with the leaders of businesses and the different players... balance and atmosphere not always so easy to create.

    The support of the business leader is a very precious asset to allow the CHCST to place itself within the firm and to have an active role in suggestions. As in many cases, the functionning and the dynamics of the CHCST depends on the firm players’ capacity to gather around the theme of prevention and to act together. To have a dynamic CHCST and the power to suggest is building it as a leader, as an employee and as a workforce representant.
